Ingredients - Makes 12 Rissoles
    Beef Rissoles
  • 500g/17.6oz Ground Beef
  • 1 Small Onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 Zucchini (shredded)
  • 1 Carrot (shredded)
  • 1 Clove Garlic, (crushed)
  • ½ Cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 Egg
  • ½ Tsp Dried Thyme
  • ½ Tsp Dried Oregano
  • 2 Tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt & Pepper
  • Onion Gravy:
  • 25g/1 oz Unsalted Butter
  • 1 Medium Onion (cut in half and sliced)
  • 2 Tsps Sugar
  • ½ Tsp Dried Thyme
  • ½ Tsp Dried Sage
  • ½ Tsp Mustard
  • 1 Tsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1½ Cups Beef Sock
  • 1 Tsp Balsamic Vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp Unsalted Butter
  • 1 Tbsp Cornflour/Cornstarch mixed with a little water
Method
    Beef Rissoles:
  1. In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients together.

  2. Form into balls first and place them on a baking tray with parchment paper, then press down to form a pattie and with your finger indent the middle slightly. 

  3. Heat a little olive oil on low medium heat and cook the patties with the dented side down first then turn over and continue to cook through. 

  4. Onion Gravy:
  5. Melt the butter in a pan over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sugar and cook until caramelized (deep golden). 

  6. Add the herbs, mustard, worcestershire sauce and beef stock. Bring to boil then simmer covered for 20 minutes. 

  7. Add the balsamic vinegar and cornflour and simmer until thickened, stirring continuously. 

  8. Add the butter (1 tablespoon) and stir until dissolved and season with season with salt and pepper to taste. 

  9. Serve over mashed potatoes with your favourite veggies and onion gravy on top.
