Kwarezimal Maltese Lenten Biscuits

A favourite traditional Biscuit enjoyed during the Lent Period. These Biscuits have a slightly crisp exterior and a soft chewy center. The ultimate Maltese Biscuit!

Method

  1. In a large bowl, mix the melted margarine with sifted flour then add all the dry ingredients.  

  2. Mix, then add remaining ingredients to form a dough.

  3. Shape the dough into small logs, about 14cm.

  4. Place on a baking tray with baking paper, leaving space inbetween.  

  5. Bake in oven 180C/350F for 20 minutes. They should be soft to touch when they come out of the oven.

  6. When cooled brush with golden syrup and sprinkle with chopped roasted almonds.
